I’ve always loved the outdoors and anything to do with nature. I was born and lived most of my life in Hendersonville, NC up until 2001, when I moved to South Carolina. I am married to a wonderful man and have two grown sons.
I had always had a love for art and creating pretty things. I worked in Florists as a Floral Designer for several years, and I do still do some Floral Arranging also.
I tried almost every art & craft you can think of and then one day….I discovered the gourd.
I have been in love with creating with them since 2004. Right after I discovered them, I began to take classes and try to decide what my favorite thing to do with them was….Well, today I have figured it out. I love the Art of Coiling on Gourds and adding lots of Nature and Natural fibers. I use a lot of Deer Antlers, pine needles, dried botanicals and pods in my creations. I also use hand spun, hand dyed yarn and ribbons. I also do some weaving on the rims of the gourds with these very same things as well as reed and other natural weaving materials. I make Pins, Barrettes, Necklaces, Watches and other unusual pieces of wearable Gourd Art. Handmade Gourd Paper is another favorite of mine to make. I don’t like to waste any part of the gourd. There’s something you can do with all of it.
Every Gourd is unique and no two will ever be alike.
I became a vendor at the Saturday Downtown Market in Greenville in 2006, and welcomed the birth of my business….Country Craft Gourds, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I have met so many wonderful people and watched my creations brighten people’s lives; it gives me this awesome sense of satisfaction. I guess that’s why Gourds are the one canvas I don’t think I will ever tire of.
If there’s something a customer is looking for that I don’t have, I always try my hardest to create them whatever they are looking for. I love to do Custom pieces and nothing makes me happier than to create something “just for you” to brighten your World.
I can be found most days, when I’m not teaching or attending a show, at my home in Pelzer working away on my next creation. My husband is a huge help to me, so I absolutely can’t leave him out!!!! I wouldn’t be able to do what I love without his help!
